Video Art (2010)

Role : Artist

As a recipient of the Anderson Ranch video art scholarship, I was invited to create a video art piece that spoke to whatever I experienced while being on their land. The video art piece I made is called Two Truths and it explores the landscape of a golf course, one of the most dominant places that white people inhabit. The film showcases a prime act of luxury and leisure in one of the wealthiest cities in America, Aspen, CO, against the backdrop of Jill Scott’s call to peace and transformation within her community as the work to heal from the evils of slavery persists. This piece asks white people if we have time for “golf” when the realities of slavery and generational trauma still very much exist in our day-to-day lives.
