Redwood Among The Aspens is a self-portrait video art installation that I created to capture my journey as a Californian transplant to Colorado. This piece delves into the profound visual narrative of displacement experienced by Southern Californians seeking more affordable living spaces beyond their hometowns. While the move allows for increased accessibility, the inherent contrast is striking—Californians stand out as non-natives in these new landscapes, creating an unmistakable visual and economic impact on the places they choose to make a new home.
